Description

An authentic antique Chinese Baotou (Pao Tao) horse cover / saddle rug, hand-knotted in plush, soft wool on a cotton foundation. Tailored in the traditional notched two-section shape designed to fit over a pack or riding saddle, this collectible textile retains its original leather stirrup eyelet/rein slots stitched onto the field. The composition features a vibrant coral-red field filled with floating lotus sprigs and two prominent round medallions enclosing stylized cross-and-swastika (wan) symbols of good fortune and eternity. A key-fret and diaper-patterned inner border in shades of apricot, peach, and ivory is framed by a rich navy blue outer border and thick indigo pile edges.
