An elegant and exceptionally charming French Aubusson Verdure tapestry panel from the late 19th- to early 20th-century Belle Époque era (circa 1890–1920). Exhibiting the masterfully soft, romantic aesthetic championed by the historic French workshops during the historical revival period, this piece portrays a tranquil pastoral landscape. A magnificent, sprawling oak tree in the foreground curves beautifully upward, heavily laden with foliage in shades of soft sage, olive green, and sandy ochre. The eye is drawn past the riverbanks toward a charming stone arched bridge over a rolling stream, leading directly to a faintly detailed chateau or hilltop fortress nestled in the background under a pale sky. Most notably, the lower left corner border contains the beautifully preserved, hand-woven signature mark: ⚜ LK ⚜. Flanked by traditional French royal Fleur-de-lis symbols certifying its French manufacture, the initials trace back to an esteemed master weaver (lissier) or workshop manager active in Aubusson, France, during the turn of the century. Woven in hand-spun wool, the tapestry features a highly desirable, light-filled pastel palette dominated by muted cream, warm tan, earthy brown, terracotta, and soft blues. This panel is completely backed with a clean, stable neutral canvas lining on the reverse, preserving its structure for generations to come.
